The collection of the Museum of Occupations

The collection of the Museum of Occupations gives an overview of the time of occupations, repressions, national resistance and singing revolution movements in Estonia, during the years of 1940-1991, when Estonia was occupied in turns by the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union again.

In the collection of the Museum there are artefacts and documents that were related to the life of Estonians during the occupation of the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. While collecting the artefacts, the main principle has been the ideological background (deportations, arrests, prisoners of war, dissidents, armed resistance, ideological propaganda), but the museum has also collected everyday household items. All the artefacts have been collected from the private persons and public institutions from Estonia and Estonians living in abroad.

Number of items in the Collection is 36 600. There are different types of items in the collection, such as books, diaries, letters, documents, magazines, journals, newspapers, maps, photographs, posters, postcards, artefacts, clothes, sculptures, toys, documentaries etc.

The Collection is digital and accessible online (only in Estonian):
